Members of Richhill Women’s Institute rose to a recent specs challenge, donating almost 100 pairs of glasses for people in Africa.
The local WI began gathering up their old specs after hearing an appeal from Carryduff optician Gillian Gervais on BBC Radio Ulster.
Gillian is going to Kenya this summer with two of her sons and will be conducting eye clinics with the Maasai people.
The family will be staying with two missionaries from Northern Ireland, Gary and Mary Reid from Saintfield, at the Acacia Grove Mission, from where the temporary eye clinic will operate.
The mission was established in 2005 and a lot of its work has focused on helping, caring for and offering refuge to vulnerable children.
