Woman admits careless driving after collision with motorcycle

A motorist who caused an accident with a motorcyclist was fined £200 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for driving without due care and attention.

Claire Parkinson (37), whose address was given as Rutherford Park, Lurgan, was also given five points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that on February 11 last year an accident took place on the Banbridge Road, Lurgan, involving a car and a motorcycle.

There was damage to the front nearside panel of the defendant’s car and to the front offside and front wheel of the motorcycle.

During interview Parkinson admitted the offence.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said she accepted full responsibility at the scene.

He added that she did not see the motorcyclist and pulled out in front of him. It was a 30mph zone and she was travelling at a low speed.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said that it was dark and wet at the time of the accident.

She added that the defendant had accepted responsibility promptly.
