Woman injured in hit and run

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a serious hit and run road traffic collision in Whiteabbey on Tuesday, February 5.

An elderly lady was struck by a car close to a convenience store on Shore Road at around 2.40pm. The driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene.

The lady was taken to hospital where she’s being treated for injuries described as “significant but not life threatening”.

Police attending the RTC arrested a 34-year-old man a short time later in Whiteabbey village. He was detained for dangerous driving causing grievous bodily injury, failing to stop and report an RTC and on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol.

He was questioned and subsequently bailed to return at a later date.

“Officers investigating the collision would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw a gold Rover car travelling on the Shore Road either before or after the collision. The number to call is 0845 600 8000,” a PSNI spokesperson said.
