Wonder Villains embark on UK tour

LONDONDERRY’S latest musical export The Wonder Villains are about to set off on their first UK tour as support act to General Fiasco.

Eimear Coyle from the local four piece can hardly contain her excitement.

“I can’t wait to head out on tour! We just have as much fun as possible on stage and I think that comes across to the crowd. I absolutely love playing live,” she said.

Eimear, along with her friend Cheylene Murphy, set about making infectious pop music a few years ago, firstly just for fun, but they’ve seen this develop from a hobby to a potential career.

So much so that they had to recruit two more members in the form of Ryan Mc Groarty and Eimear’s brother Kieran to beef up the band.

They’ve recently supported The Human League on tour and their upcoming single ‘Zola’ has been played everywhere from BBC Radio One to Sky Sports.

While most of their peers are settling into a new life at University, these four youngsters are gearing up for a rather different adventure altogether. Eimear has high hopes that this is the beginning of something special.

She said: “We’ve been playing for a few years now but we had to hold back because of school in Derry.

“We’re now living together in a big Wonder Villain house in Belfast.”

She added: “We call it the Wonder Villa, and we’re all totally dedicated to the band full time now.”

They aren’t short of admirers either. Rocky O’Reilly, a founding member of Oppenheimer - one of Northern Ireland’s premier indie outfits, is such a fan that he has helped the band with the recording of their tracks.

The Wonder Villains have also been recording with Peter Doherty at Neon Noise Studios in Strabane and are currently working towards releasing their debut LP.
