Armoy Wasps entertain at the Kingspan Stadium

Thre was great excitement at Limepark when the club’s under 12 section were asked to come and showcase their skills and a great deal of preparation and training was put in prior to the big day. The Wasps played against a very established team from Strabane and performed fantastically in front of a full house at the Kingspan Stadium.

Although no one was officially keeping score, the team gave a superb account of themselves playing against a well drilled team.

This was a massive achievement for the players and for the club, because although there are regularly over 40 kids training on a Saturday across the age groups, this is only the first season that the Wasps have been playing.

Gareth Christie, club chairman said: “We couldn’t be more proud of the kids, some of them have never picked up a rugby ball before they came to play with us and now they are playing on a Pro 12 club pitch in front of thousands of people.

“It’s testament to the attitude of the kids that they wanted to get stuck in and get out on the pitch and massive credit is due to the hard work of the coaches who have prepared the kids to get them to this stage.

“The club and committee have put a lot of effort into getting the minis started and a big thanks is owed to them all.

“These kids are the future of Armoy Rugby Football Club and the big plans we have and it’s great to see them getting off to a flying start.”

New recruits, both boys and girls are always welcome at the club and training takes place during the rugby season on Saturday morning at 10am.
