Double Ulster championship success for All Saints boxers

All Saints Boxers Christie Convery and Tyler McMullan both won Gold at last weekends Ulster open Championships in Belfast.

Fifteen year old Tyler, from Antrim, made it 5 Ulster titles in a row by lifting the 52kg title for the Saints.

He defeated Cian Bittles from the Holy Trinity club Belfast on a split decision in a thrilling contest that the audience on the edge of their seats right to the final bell.

With it all even going into the third and final round it was all to play for. McMullan’s ring craft and fitness started to come through as he repeatedly scored with over hand rights followed by short left hooks. As Bittles relentlessly tried to stamp his authority in the round McMullan picked him off beautifully with his left Jab to steam home to a fantastic victory.

Tyler’s stablemate Christie Convery also fifteen from Portglenone also picked up gold at the 50kg class.

Convery defeated E.J Gibbons from the Illies Golden Gloves club Donegal.

Convery won the contest 3-0 unanimously on all judges score cards. This was Christie’s first Ulster open title and he boxed out of his skin to claim it.

Convery found success boxing on the back foot to bring his opponent onto his shots time and time again. His counter punching was to perfection through out the contest.

Everyone at the club are over the moon with the two lads success.

Both will now concentrate on the up and coming County Antrim Championships and hopefully a crack at the Irish Title.
