Reece takes Nine County championship

On Saturday Scorpion Boxing Club’s fighters were in action at the Ulster 9 Counties championships with Reece Napier lifting the Ulster Open title in the 42kg category.

Reece, an up and coming talent, beat Shay King from St Paul’s Belfast after boxing very aggressively.

He controlled the bout using his jab to set head and body combinations, impressing the large crowd and winning with a unanimous decision.

Reece’s brother Lewis Napier booked his place in the final after a good points win over a tough opponent from Letterkenny, however young Lewis came up against reigning European champion Aaron McKenna.

Lewis produced a gutsy performance, giving his all, but unfortunately he came up short.

On a positive note he will gain a lot from this experience.

Another local boxer, Michael Coyles lost a narrow points decision in his semi final.

All three boxers are now preparing for the County Antrim champions at the end of the month.
