Cambridge House edged out by resilient Foyle

SCHOOLS CUP ROUND 2

Foyle + Londonderry College 14, Cambridge House 8

THE NERVES of the Foyle team and supporters were on edge throughout the final 20 minutes of the match as Cambridge House pressed relentlessly for the try they deserved on their second half performance, which would have swayed a tight match in their favour.

A charged down try and two penalties to Foyle were replied to by a Kris Steele penalty for Cambridge House in the first half as Foyle led 11 – 3 at the interval.

The second half belonged to Cambridge House as Matthew McBreen drove over for a try in the 50th minute to reduce the deficit to 11 – 8. Foyle only made two excursions into the away teams twenty two during the second period and made one count, a penalty giving them the six point cushion.

On four occasions in the final quarter, which they dominated, House was almost over the line. The forwards pushed as a strong cohesive unit with Josh Rea and Adrian Hamilton coming close, but Foyle tenaciously held on and were a relieved side when the final whistle sounded.

Cambridge House now moves on to play in the Schools Trophy, in which they play Antrim Grammar next Saturday.
