CROSS BORDER CHALENGE MATCH

Meanwhile on the playing front last seasons Under 14s enjoyed a great end of season day out when they travelled to Blanchardstown, North Dublin to play a cross border challenge match against Corduff FC. The Ballymena group were made very welcome by their hosts making the day an enjoyable experience.

Corduff 5- 6 Carniny Youth: Carniny travelled to Blanchardstown in North Dublin last weekend to take on Corduff, a side who recently finished in fourth position in the Dublin Premier League.

The Reds were made more than welcome by their Dublin hosts and the large crowd who turned up enjoyed a thrilling encounter on an unusually cool, blustery summer’s day.

Corduff began the stronger and tested the Carniny defence out on more than one occasion but found Callum McGall and Jamie Timms in solid form at the back preventing any real clear cut chance.Carniny gradually played their way into the game, with Simon Evans pulling the strings in midfield, and began to exert some pressure on the Corduff defence. It was midway through the first half when Rhys O’Mullan swept home a left foot effort. Corduff forced their way back into things when they equalised after what looked like a foul on Carniny goalkeeper James McClean.

Shortly afterwards Jamie Houston forced the ball home from close range following a corner and then Philip Maybin finished with a aplomb when put through by a defence splitting pass.

The second half began as the first half finished with both teams playing exceptional football and throwing everything into attack. Corduff pulled a goal back early in the second half.

Rhys O’Mullan made it 4-2 with a shot from a narrow angle. Corduff then reduced the arrears to 4-3 before O’Mullan completed his hat trick to make it 5-3.

Corduff pulled the score back to 5-4 before Philip Maybin again gave Carniny a two goal lead with another great finish but Carniny were made to sweat in the closing stages when again Corduff reduced the arrears to a one goal deficit.

The game ended with Carniny just about deserving their victory and hopefully Corduff will come north to play the Reds in a return game later in the summer.

Team; McClean, Campbell, Timms, McGall, Galbraith, Houston, Evans, O’Mullan, Daley, Doherty, Maybin, Thompson and McComb.
