School records were smashed in the triple jump, hurdles, 800 metres and relay events by Ethan Williamson, Alberto Balde, Matthew Willis, Harry Anderson, Jay Lismore, Peter Douglas and Bobby Farquhar.

The Clounagh athletes returned home with extra individual medals but also a first Junior Boys’ Cup in school history.

“Ethan set two school records, in the 80 metres hurdles and triple jump,” said Clounagh’s Gary Jackson. “Matthew got silver in the 800 metres on the way to breaking a record established by Dean Smith in 1991.

“Harry, Jay, Peter and Bobby also set a record previously set in 1991.

“The students were also extremely impressive at the District finals.

“School records were set by Harry Anderson and Alberto Balde, the latter a time across 100 metres established in 1988 by Karl Gale.

“We have been enjoying one of our best years in the track and fields championships, with 25 students making progress out of the Districts across 20 events.

“Our minor and junior boys were ranked top overall.

“The Ulster haul of medals and points marked the greatest ever in our history, on top of the four school records and first Junior Boys’ Cup triumph.”
