Portadown Youth coach Noel Cowan is one of seven Northern Ireland ‘carafans’ aiming to add to the buzz in France this summer.
Cowan and his friends will follow the Green And White Army at the European Championships in a caravan redesigned for the special occasion.
“We picked up an old caravan and set about painting it up in colours appropriate for our summer trip,” said Cowan. “The reaction on social media has been superb.
“For us to qualify was so unexpected really and EURO 2016 is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so we decided to do something a bit different.
“Because we have the caravan painted in green and white and we ‘borrowed’ the Carlsberg slogan, they have even agreed to help us out with 10 cases of lager.”
Cowan will join friends from areas such as Lisburn, Donaghadee and Saintfield to cheer on Michael O’Neill’s boys.
“Most of us have been following Northern Ireland for maybe 20 years, with friendships developed at games home and away,” said Cowan. “There is still some work to do before the finals but we cannot wait.”
