Cross Country race comesto Gransha

FINN Valley won the National men’s Novice cross country club championship in Wexford, led home by Gerard Gallagher in 10th place.

Sligo athlete Dermot McDermott won the individual title and the only local runner in the field, Cathal Logue finished a disappointed 53rd in a field of almost 200 finishers.

Stephen Duncan meantime ran 32 minutes and 4 seconds to win the Eskra 10K road race on Saturday from Foyle Valley’s Keith Shields on 32 minutes and 54 seconds and City of Derry’s James Brown who posted 33 minutes and 25 seconds in third.

While attention now turns to Saturday’s North West cross country championships in Gransha where a comprehensive race programme will attract big numbers to the Clooney Road venue for the popular annual City of Derry promotion.

Races for U13’s, U15’s, U17’s, U20’s, Seniors and Masters are on the agenda which kicks-off at 11.45am with the featured Open race set for 12.25pm. Entries will be taken from 10.30am at the race HQ, the U3A Foyle building.
