‘First’ class display from Churches League champions at Cuningham

IF it was billed as a potential banana skin for First Ahoghill, someone clearly forgot to hand the script to the champions.

A trip to Cuningham Memorial ‘B’ – last season’s runners-up and highly-placed finishers on a regular basis – might well have been expected to be one of the biggest tests Ahoghill would face in the remainder of the defence of their Ballymena & District Churches League title.

Instead Ahoghill, who have gradually cranked up through the gears after a spluttering start to their campaign, simply brushed aside their opponents with a maximum points win at the Cullybackey clubrooms, emerging winners by a 16-shot margin.

And in a week where there was the possibility of Ahoghill slipping up, they instead INCREASED their lead at the summit as nearest challengers First Broughshane dropped half a point in their home game with Cloughwater.

At the opposite end of the table, Second Broughshane ‘B’ leap-frogged Clough ‘B’ thanks to a 19-shot win in a bottom-of-the-table clash.
