BB win Waterside derby

A BBOB team showing six changes from the previous week, had an impressive 3-0 victory over Newbuildings United Reserves, in Saturday’s Matt Morrison Junior Cup.

The game started with both teams attempting to play simple football on a soft slippery surface and with 11 minutes gone BB’s Harris chased a ball played into the opposition area and was impeded by the goalkeeper and a penalty was awarded.

Calvin Mooney attempting to chip the ball past the goalkeeper only succeeded in chipping it into his arms.

Both teams were playing good attractive football although Don Olphert’s side always looked the more likely to score.

At half-time the score was 0-0 but six minutes after the break the deadlock was broken.

Brown won the ball in midfield and fed Mooney on the left wing, he cut inside the full back and fired a low cross into the goalmouth which the Newbuildings defender under pressure from Harris turned the ball past his own goalkeeper into the net to give the Old Boys a one goal advantage.

The BBOB team with Brown dominating midfield and Harris always a threat in attack now took advantage of the situation and pressed forward looking to add more goals but the Newbuildings defence held firm.

With 20 minutes remaining the Old Boys made a substitution bringing on Pierce and within minutes he had scored.

Harris chased a ball which seemed to be going out for a goal kick, stopped it, beat a defender and delivered a low cross into the Newbuildings area which young Pierce controlled and drove into the net for a well executed goal.

BBOB were now dominating the game with Brown dictating play in midfield and Harris rampant leading the line and it was only a matter of time before they added to their score which came through the impressive Harris.

He again picked up a through ball looked up and sent an unstoppable shot into the top corner for goal number three for the visitors.

Both teams attempted to play good attractive football throughout this game with Brown and Harris outstanding for this BBOB team giving manager Don Olphert plenty of selection problems for their game this Saturday.

Meanwhile the BB’s Monthly draw was won by E Henderson and M Marshall, while C Pierce was second.
