Jonny Black’s solitary strike settled Irish Cup success for Tandragee Rovers on Saturday against Albert Foundry, last season’s Amateur League Premier Division runners-up.
Black was rewarded for his supporting run alongside Cecil Corbett early in the second half by collecting his colleague’s pass and drilling home the decisive goal.
Play at Madden Road proved free-flowing but Rovers created the first opening when Simon McClean moved past a few rivals before picking out Black, however, the latter cleared the crossbar.
Gary Whiteside’s clearance after the interval dropped for Corbett to find his strike partner and Black grabbed the tie’s only goal.
Richard McGivern proved sharp between the posts to protect the lead, with additional chances for Rovers falling without success to Black and Corbett. Black’s volley off a Chris Mackle cross dropped wide of the target then Corbett’s header hit the post from a McGivern upfield punt.
