Chairman appeals for support

LURGAN Celtic Chairman Maurice McEvoy has asked football fans of Lurgan to support the local team in the coming weeks.

Maurice told the Mail, “We have two big games coming up. The first is a league match with Knockbreda at Knockramer Park on Saturday which is the top of the table clash.

“Following this we have the prestigious Bob Radcliffe Cup Final on Boxing Day which is a repeat of last years final where we face Loughgall at Lakeview Park. These two games are very important to the club and I would ask that people from Lurgan to rally round and support the team as they bid to retain their position at the top of the table and also to make history participating in the Radcliffe Cup Final on boxing day for the second year in succession,” said Maurice.

“We met with the MUFA a few weeks ago and had proposed a neutral venue for the final, unfortunately our request was denied so it is up to us to prepare ourselves properly for this. We are aware that Loughgall have put a run of wins together and are moving in the right direction in their league, but our lads are also up for this game and if we play the way we have been then this is set for an entertaining game on Boxing Day.

“As everyone knows support plays a big part in football and the more support we have the better. I want to thank our main sponsor John McCrory of McCrory Scaffolding for their continued support and a big thank you to all our sponsors and to everyone who has helped in any way to make it possible for Lurgan Celtic to be in this position half way through the season.”
