Cherry signs up as Haveron aims to bolster squad

One signed and three more to come, says Gary Haveron after he excitedly revealed that he had secured the services of Kyle Cherry who was arguably the mainstay of Dundela’s fine season.

“Kyle’s a high quality player and I can’t believe there was not a posse of Premier League clubs seeking his signature because his ability is beyond question. So I am absolutely delighted to have him on board at Taylor’s Avenue for next season,” stated the Carrick Rangers manager.

“Kyle is incredibly enthusiastic and ambitious and he feels Carrick Rangers will be the vehicle to bring him into the Premier League and he wants to help us achieve our goal.

“He played a key role in Dundela’s Steel and Sons Cup triumph, scoring crucial goals in both the quarter-final and semi-final and playing his part in the final until he was injured.

“The ankle injury sustained denied the team his services for a good part of the second half of the season and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that their form wasn’t quite as good as it had been before that. He actually suffered a recurrence of it when he was playing against us.

“But he was fully fit again and played the last four or five matches of the season and performed very well. But now he wants to play for Carrick and he will be a tremendous acquisition for the club.

“He’s a 21-year-old midfielder who originally played for Glentoran and then had a spell with Glenavon. I deem his enthusiasm and love of the game two great factors in his make-up. The lad just loves to play football.

“I said at the outset that I have the nucleus of a quality squad and now I think I need just three more players to prepare us for another crack at promotion in the new season.

“It’s no real secret that I want another striker, another midfielder and another defender. I have been speaking to players who would seem to fit the bill for all those positions and I will be disappointed if I don’t have more good news by the early part of next week,” added the Carrick boss.
