Duff hammers home to help Ballynure see off Dunloy

Even without Ricky Higgins, Jackie Todd and Gareth Curlett, Gary Burns’ lads were too strong for Dunloy, recording their third straight win on a 2-0 scoreline.

Only a superb save by Paul Hughes prevented Dunloy from taking an early lead, but gradually the home side got on top and this paid off on the half-hour when a Denver Leckey corner was headed home by Paul Leckey.

In the 80th minute skipper Duff made sure of the points when he hammered the ball into the roof of the net after Houston had dummied the defence from another McIntyre cross.

“We got the win but this was no more than a decent performance,” said manager Burns.

“We just about deserved to be ahead at the break and we eventually got the second goal we deserved, but it was not one of our best performances.”

He added: “We are hoping to pick up three more points this weekend when we travel to Cookstown to play Sofia Farm.”

n A consolation strike from Aaron Lindsay was all Rathcoole had to show from their 2-1 defeat at Chimney Corner.

Mark Butler put the Antrim side one up at Allen Park two minutes before the interval before Steve McKay doubled their advantage with around 20 minutes to play.

Lindsay’s 75th-minute effort gave Rathcoole hope, but Corner held out to claim all three points. This Saturday Rathcoole welcome Killymoon Rangers to The Diamond.
