FOOTBALL: Grange Rangers see off Swifts

A man of the match performance by Tiago Leite, on loan from Ballyclare Comrades, underpinned Grange Rangers’ 4-2 win against Ballysillan Swifts at Foundry Lane on Saturday.

The Ballysillan defenders were left sprawling time after time with his mazy runs down the left flank, and near the end a frustrated opponent was dismissed for fouling the home star

Phil Gregg opened the scoring in the 7th minute from a Chris Bell cross, but Swifts forged ahead with two goals around the half-hour mark.

Robert McFaul restored parity with a header from a Matti King corner just before the break and in the 65th minute Tiago threaded his way past three defenders before setting up King to tap in his 10th of the season. Five minutes from time Gregg doubled his tally following another Tiago run.

“All square at the interval was a fair reflection of play,” said manager, Stephen King, “but superior fitness and Tiago’s skills earned us a deserved win.”

The win lifts Rangers up to fourth spot in the Amateur League Division 2C - six points behind leaders Lower Shankill, but with a game in hand.

On Saturday, Rangers are away to Donaghadee.
