Football: Rangers part company with Small

Carrick Rangers have parted company with manager Stephen Small and former Northern Ireland international Michael Hughes has been put in charge of first-team affairs on an “interim” basis.

Small was instrumental in Carrick’s memorable double-winning campaign last season. He lead the club back to the top-flight for the first time in 16 years when they won the Championship One title and lifted the Intermediate Cup on a remarkable night at Dixon Park in May.

However, this season the club has picked up just 13 points from 20 games in the Carling Premiership.
