Jaime Gardiner secured a place in Annagh United history books with a decisive goal in the club’s first fixture as a second-tier Irish League outfit.
Gardiner displayed impressive composure to capitalise on a defensive error in the closing minutes of the derby date with Armagh City.
The substitute made his mark to secure a 2-1 victory and hand Annagh a dream start to life in NIFL Championship One.
“I think the division is very strong so it was important for us to get off to the right start,” said Gardiner. “We kept on playing and working hard and got the reward.
“It gives us a great platform.”
Gardiner’s goal had special significance due to the timing but the first goal of the day by Steven Park proved one to remember.
“I have played alongside Steven at Portadown, Coagh United and now Annagh so know all about his quality,” said Gardiner. “It was a brilliant finish on a big day for the club.”
