Irish League clubs aiming to build up gametime

Portadown, Loughgall and Annagh United have packed pre-season friendly programmes planned to build on the off-field fitness work.

The Ports recorded a 3-0 defeat of Bangor last weekend thanks to goals by two youth prospects, Marcio Soares and Nedas Maciulaitis, alongside Robert Garrett.

Stranraer arrive in town tonight (Friday) from Scotland and the senior squad will split next Tuesday evening for trips to face both Newry City and Banbridge Town.

Lurgan Celtic visit Shamrock Park next Thursday before another home date on July 25 against Harland and Wolff Welders ahead of the August 1 derby visit to Annagh United.

Loughgall opened the pre-season run with a 2-2 draw against Broomhill but welcome Linfield to Lakeview Park tomorrow (Saturday) from 2 o’clock.

Other dates on the cards include Magherafelt Sky Blues (away, July 25) and St Mary’s (home, July 30). The Villagers’ annual Ivan Marshall Memorial Cup against Dungannon Swifts was scheduled for last night (Thursday).

Annagh United play host to Hanover tomorrow (Saturday) from 3 o’clock plus have midweek dates planned against Warrenpoint Town (Tuesday, July 21) and Dungannon Swifts (Thursday, July 23), both set to kick-off at 7.30.

Other games scheduled include Downpatrick (away, July 25), Broomhill (home, July 28), Tandragee Rovers (away, July 30) and Portadown (home, August 1).
