Smith enjoyed great success at Lakeview Park as a striker under Niall Currie, including league title glory.

Smith makes the move from Annagh United and will be in charge of Loughgall this weekend against his former club in the Championship league game.

Highlights from Smith’s spell at Annagh include promotion into the second tier of the Irish League and a successful first campaign that protected the club from relegation on limited resources, plus reaching the Mid-Ulster Cup final.

A Loughgall statement confirmed the appointment as follows:

“Following the resignation of Steven Hawe, Loughgall Football Club have announced the interim appointment of Dean Smith as first-team manager.

“As per licensing requirements, a permanent appointment will be made within 60 days.

“Loughgall FC would like to wish Dean every success in his new position.”

Steven Hawe stepped down from the role of first-team boss on Monday, along with Stephen Uprichard, with the explanation he had “taken the club as far as possible”.
