McBurney Transport extends United sponsorship

BALLYMENA UNITED'S long running association with haulage firm McBurney transport continues with the announcement that the local company have signed a two year sponsorship with the club.

McBurney Transport have sponsored the Sky Blues for 25 years which makes this sponsorship one of the longest in British football.

The deal makes McBurney's sponsorship one of the longest in British football and shows the dedication the company has to the premier league side.

Founder of McBurney Transport, Norman McBurney said he was happy to once again get behind the local side.

Norman said: "I am very happy to continue our sponsorship supporting the team for another two years, I have been told the sponsorship has now reached 25 years and I hope the club achieve success in the near future.

"The chairman is always working hard to achieve this, and they will hopefully do the business."

Ballymena United Chairman Robert Cupples said he wants the club to match Norman's ambition and to repay the faith McBurney's has shown by bringing success to the Showgrounds.

Robert said: "I am delighted that this long serving relationship is to continue, Norman and the company have shown a really big commitment.

"Hopefully we can pay back the good faith shown by providing some success in the season ahead."

With recent signing 'Mo' McDowell recruited from Saturday Morning League's Carniny Rangers, it is clear the club are not scared to look at the lower leagues when adding to the squad.

Robert said the club have placed this emphasis on recruiting local talent instead of spending big, he added: "The youth system is in good shape, our reserves won the Junior cup in 2009, while our youth team also won their cup this year.

"We have made a few changes with players in and players out, there are a lot of people working behind the scenes and they are dedicated to building for the future."

With pre-season training about to get underway, Manager Roy Walker said this sort of news is the perfect way to get everyone excited for the season ahead.

Speaking to the Times, he said: "This is great news all round, for Norman and the McBurney company to provide 25 years of sponsorship, shows a unrivalled commitment to the club.

"Ballymena is a great club with great people around it, and support like this is greatly appreciated."
