County Armagh Junior players’ Milk Cup trophy pursuit was cut short in dramatic fashion against GPS FC Bayern.
The Bowl semi-final finished in a 5-4 penalty shoot-out defeat for the Orchard County teenagers.
Oisin Smyth’s slick strike handed County Armagh the perfect start and Robbie McAteer hit the crossbar before the break.
Bayern also entered half-time frustrated by the frame of the goal following a penalty kick that bounced off the post.
“We looked comfortable then Bayern got a free-kick in the last few minutes and someone made contact on the delivery inside the box to level the match,” said Dean McCullough, chairman of the County Armagh Milk Cup Association. “Tom Weir had a chance late on but it went to penalty kicks and we scored thanks to Daniel McKeown, Oisin, Sam Murphy and Tom before losing 5-4.”
Ben Davison, Declan O’Neill, Luke Wilson, Darragh Gray, Tom Weir and Sam Murphy - all players from the area - featured in the semi-final, alongside Loughgall Youth’s Mark Lucas.
Portadown Youth had Barney McKeown, Josh Megoran and Alberton Balde on show.
