MILK CUP: Premier boys suffer final defeat but County Armagh return home with award

County Armagh Premier players’ Vase Trophy final against Ghana-based Right To Dream offered harsh evidence of the game’s global talent as the tourists enjoyed a 6-1 success.

However, the return home was made a touch easier by news of success in the County Fairplay Award following another impressive Milk Cup week overall.

“It is nice to come back home with something,” said Dean McCullough, chairman of the County Armagh Milk Cup Association. “In terms of the final, we simply came up against a side too good for us.

“We were actually puzzled as to how Right To Dream did not make the main final as they certainly rank as the best side we have come up against in a long, long time.

“They had total movement, great ability on the ball and excellent touch so there is no disgrace in losing to such a quality team.

“We were under pressure from the start and 1-0 down when a formation change from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1 helped us contain Right To Dream.

“We got an equaliser off a great corner-kick by Scott Megaw that Eoin Toal headed in.

“However, they scored five in the second half, including a few late on.”

The County Armagh players on show included Conor Larkin from the area and Loughgall’s Ross Wilson,

Portadown were represented by Scott Megaw, Patrick McPartland, Mark Johnston and Nedas Maciulaitis.
