Narrow defeat for Grange Rangers

Although Grange Rangers are having their best season for several years, their hopes of promotion from Division 2B finally ended when they lost 1-0 to Bangor YM.

Craig Dyer should have put Rangers in the box-seat, but he failed to convert two early scoring chances.

Rangers then paid dearly when the hosts opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a rebound strike.

Grange upped the pace in the second half and had most of the attacking play, but Marc Campbell, Keith Anderson and Dyer were denied by the keeper.

Bangor were dangerous on the break, but skipper Matt Cooper and player-manager Paul McAllister marshalled the defence.

Sammy McGookin almost salvaged a point, only to be denied by a marvellous diving save.

Club secretary, Wayne Lewis, said: “This was another tight contest, and we were disappointed not to get a draw.

“The defeat leaves out of the promotion race, but we will settle for a top-five finish in a highly-competitive league.”
