Niall Currie resigns as Carrick boss but shock decision ‘not over result’
Niall Currie has resigned from his role as Carrick Rangers manager.
Currie informed his players of the decision in the immediate aftermath of Carrick’s 2-1 loss to Portadown today, the latter his previous club.
Currie left Shamrock Park without talking to the written press and rumours over his situation started to spread.
Speaking from his Portadown home soon after to the News Letter, Currie confirmed he had stepped down as manager.
“I don’t not want to comment on specifics but have resigned as Carrick Rangers manager,” said Currie. “I told the players after the game of my decision.
“I want to place on record my thanks to the players and supporters for everything over the past three years.
“My decision was not over today’s result and now is not the time to talk about next steps.
“I do not want to make any further comment regarding the circumstances.”
