Luke McCullough has been rewarded for his return to form following injury with an international call-up.
The Portadown-born centre-back was named by international boss Michael O’Neill this week in the Northern Ireland squad for Wednesday’s friendly against Scotland then the home clash with Finland in EURO 2016 qualifying group F on Sunday, March 29.
McCullough was recently ruled out of Doncaster Rovers’ play-off push in League One due to a thigh strain but has recovered across the past few weeks to regain his starting spot.
“I had a micro-tear in my thigh and it was felt best to take the four weeks or so and let it heal rather than risk coming back sooner and causing a bigger problem,” said McCullough. “It was a nice boost to get a call from Michael when out injured to check on my progress.
“I was able to explain how it was just about playing it safe and have been back in the side now for the past five games.
“It is great to be selected again for my country.”
