Portadown Football Club historian Trevor Clydesdale takes a look back into the Shamrock Park archives:
“Portadown take on Ballinamallard United this weekend - with the sides have only previously met 13 times, with the first encounter taking place seven years ago this week at Shamrock Park in a Championship One game.
United shocked their hosts and left for home with all three points in a landmark 3-2 victory.
Portadown secured a 4-1 league success and a 5-0 League Cup win from the first two visits to Ferney Park. The Mallards returned to Shamrock Park in December 2009, winning 3-1 in the League Cup.
Ballinamallard gained promotion to the Premiership in 2012-13 and won by 2-0 in the first senior league meeting at Ferney Park. Portadown took full points in the remaining games that season, winning 2-1 and 1-0.
On September 7 2013 the Ports recorded a memorable 11-0 win - the first time in 47 years that such a scoreline had been recorded in the top division. Gary Twigg and Kevin Braniff both bagged hat-tricks, with Peter McMahon and Darren Murray securing a brace each and Ryan McStay the other scorer.
Portadown lost out that November by 2-1 but Ballinamallard have failed to find the back of the net in the past four meetings. The Ports have enjoyed wins by 1-0, 3-0 and 2-0 plus a scoreless draw.”
