Youth officials reflect on year to remember

The Portadown Youth annual general meeting on Friday provided an opportunity to reflect on the most successful season in club history.

Aside from the impressive haul of silverware, players from the Portadown Youth books progressed into the parent club’s senior squad and also secured trials at Everton, Manchester City and Sheffield Wednesday.

The following office-bearers were elected: committee - Jeff Kerr (chairman), Gary Magee (vice-chairman), Michael Lynch (treasurer), Noel Cowan (secretary), Phil Smyth (parents’ representative), Trevor Hall (child welfare officer); football sub-committee - Trevor Williamson, Gary McCullough, Aaron McNeill, Gary Magee, Noel Cowan, Jeff Kerr.

“Some of the highlights have been Aaron McNeill, our head of youth, launching the club’s development plan in front of Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill,” said a Portadown Youth spokesman. “We had players moving up the age groups across the board, with 12 selected for Club NI.

“Ten of our players were involved in the Milk Cup and, for the first time, the NIBFA National finals.”

UNDER 16s: NIBFA National League Plate.

UNDER 14s: National League Cup, Ayr Cup; Lisburn League Cup, Ayr Cup.

UNDER 13s: NIBFA National Cup, Ayr Cup.

UNDER 11s: Lisburn League Shield, Castle Juniors Cup, Valley Cup.

Sides also finished as runners-up: UNDER 14s - National League Premier Section; UNDER 13s - National League Premier Section, National League Cup; UNDER 12s - National League Cup; UNDER 11s - NIBFA National League Cup, Craigavon Cup, Annalong Cup; UNDER 10s - Hillsboro Cup; UNDER NINES - Craigavon Cup.
