Top-flight champions Tandragee Rovers kicked off the Mid-Ulster Intermediate League Section A title defence with a single-goal success on Saturday.

Rovers had Lee Wells’ composure from the penalty spot to thank for three points against AFC Craigavon.

Manager Scott Walker finished the fixture with satisfaction from the result if not the performance.

“We were the better side overall, although they dragged a penalty kick wide after our goal,” said Walker, the Tandragee boss. “We failed to create much in the first half but scored from the penalty spot.

“They were reduced to 10 men in the final stages.

“We went into the match with something like seven players missing so it was all about taking the points.

“We know there is more to come from this squad.

“We had a few half-chances but will take the 1-0 win.”
