Wakehurst fell behind to a header from a corner five minutes before half-time and their task got harder two minutes after the re-start when a Portstewart player intercepted an Owen Gregg pass before going on to beat keeper Marc Maybin.
Wakehurst got back into the game when leading goalscorer Conor Gregg made space in the penalty area and although his shot was beaten out by the keeper, Corey Price was following up to slot home the rebound.
