Wright thrilled with Scottish Cup win

Wright enjoyed a fairytale end to his debut season as The Saints boss is well aware that their first major trophy will be more special to many other people.

The Ballyclare man, who has been offered a new deal with the Perth side, led them to a 2-0 William Hill Scottish Cup final victory over Dundee United.

The former Northern Ireland goalkeeper said: “It means everything in terms of my career, it’s the pinnacle of my career to win the Scottish Cup, but more importantly it means a lot more to a lot more people - the supporters, the players, my staff, and (owners) Geoff and Steve Brown who have put a lot into this club.”

Chairman Steve Brown, stated in the Scottish Express, revealed talks with Wright are already well underway and despite having still has a year left on his existing contract, they want to tie down the man who delivered the first major trophy in their 130-year history.

“Tommy is definitely the best in our history,” Brown insisted. “Without a doubt.

“If you take into account the size of club we are, he’s worked miracles.

“Aye, I did offer him a contract last night – and he doesn’t realise he’s signed it!

“Seriously, that’s in hand. We’ve talked about it but it was on the back-burner until after the final.

“It’s very similar to Stevie May – it’s all been discussed for months.

”We’ll thrash out the details, but we know where we are. I’ve spoken to Tommy.

“He’s not interested in going anywhere and I don’t want him to go anywhere either.

“I know there could be people looking at him over the summer but, as far as I’m concerned, he’ll be at St Johnstone for a good few years to come.”
