Heaney home first in weekend win around the Carrickblacker course

Michael Heaney posted a winning tally of 45 points around Carrickblacker to scoop Saturday’s stableford prize off his 23 handicap.

Nigel Morton edged out Dave Allen for runner-up thanks to the countback and Raymond McKeag had his back-nine score to thank for a spot at the expense of Stephen Wray.

Wray’s consolation arrived with his hole-in-one.

Tom McFarland, the immediate past captain, was next home on 41 points.

Keith Walker lifted the gross thanks to a level-par 70.

Special mention must go to David Brighton, Michael Bulloch, Paul McLoughlin, Gordon Willis and Andy Fitzsimons.

The Thursday Stableford was won by Darren Brown’s 43 points thanks to a strong back-nine run over Geoff Robinson.

Robinson’s round included three birdie ‘twos’ to finish in front of Ronnie Hynds.

Craig Black won the gross prize.

In the Wednesday Sweep - sponsored by Nixon Financial Services - David Love finished first on 32 points.

The section winners were: 0-10 - Stephen Fox 31; 11-14 - Ronnie Hyndes 29; 15-18 - Eric McAfee 30; 19-plus - Ryan McFarland 32.

The open stableford on Monday featured Larry Ruddock first over Kenny Courtney, Steve McChesney and John Mackin. Craig Black won the gross.

In the ladies’ T&E Kerr Trophy, Valerie Stewart was first home on 38, with the countback putting June Garvin in front of Sharon Horsfall.

A timesheet has been posted in advance of the Irish Mail On Sunday qualifying planned for August 4, with players asked to arrange a partner.

Betty Williamson will travel with Portadown club professional Paul Stevenson to Ballycastle thanks to her success across the PGA Tankard qualifying.
