Stevie Clarke and Stevie Gilmore won seven and six. Russell Jamison and Dessie Reid won two and one. Fergus McCartney and Alex Thompson won by two holes. Sean Lawell and David Neeson won five and three. Kevin Cushnan and John Hinds lost two and one after being five down with five to play.

Weather conditions were lovely to start with but then deteriorated rapidly after nine holes to the point that the greens were flooding.

There was some talk of suspension but in this situation the appropriately named Club Captain Eddie “The Duck” Donaldson commandeered a few squeegees and got stuck into moving the excess water. He was quickly supported by the two Stevies who by now had won their match and so needed to be kept away from the bar for another while yet.

It’s a great result but there’s lots more to do and the battle continues at Foyle at 2pm on Sunday.
