Lisburn’s juvenile teams pave the way through to the next rounds

Lisburn’s Under 18 teams were busy last Friday.

In the morning they competed along with 40 other clubs in the Ulster Section of the Irish Junior Foursomes at Bangor Golf Club. The pairing of Josh Hamilton (5) & Aaron Marshall (6) returned a gross 76 (70ス nett) whilst Mark McNellis (5) & Mark Armstrong (9) had a gross 83 (76 nett) giving the Lisburn team an overall 146ス (nett).

This put them in third place and sealed qualification for the semi-finals, when they will face Ardglass at Rockmount on Monday 3rd August.

After coming off the course at 2pm at Bangor, these four players together with Craig Ryan, Josh Hamilton and Jonny Scott set off to Cushendall to play in the first leg of the quarter final tie of the Fred Daly Trophy at 6pm in the evening.

Cushendall were certainly stiff opposition with their top three players playing off a 4 handicap and the highest handicapped player on their team at 8.

In a closely contested tie, the Lisburn team had wins from Aaron Marshall and Mark Armstrong and half matches from Josh Robinson and Josh Hamilton to leave the tie at just 4-3 to Cushendall team going into the second leg at Lisburn on Sunday.

Also on Friday, back in Lisburn, the Craigavon Cup team of James Mulholland, Conor Heasley, Harry McNellis, Eliott Lonsdale, Kathryn Murphy, Callum McConville and Conor Lyness played their first match against Armagh winning the tie by 18 points to 10. Their opponents this week will be Ashfield GC.

The team of Josh Hamilton, Ben McCambley, Ross Morrow, Mark Stewart and Johnny Scott will face Rossmore in the third round of the Ronan Rafferty Cup on Friday 17th July.
