Poole’s men and Jones lead the honours list at Carrickblacker

Andrew Poole’s team wrapped up a superb Winter League campaign on Saturday as champions following a commanding run of results.

Poole’s players enjoyed a successful defence of the Gerry Brown Memorial Trophy by leading the Richardson’s Meats-sponsored tournament from the opening week.

Tom McFarland - the Carrickblacker captain - guided his players to runner-up overall.

Derek Jones’ superb individual scoring placed him first in the race for the Montgomery Rosebowl with 196 points within a field of over 240 players. Colm McKeever was second on 185 points, followed by Jim Wright’s 184.

The section winners were: 1, Mark Jones 183; 2, Ian Wray 176; 3, Liam Tennyson 183.5; 4, George Doherty 176.

Poole also collected a prize as Best Team Captain with 169 on the ninth card from John Cassidy.

The leading players in non-winning teams were: Kenny Guy 182 points; Graham Patterson 168; Nigel Semple 171.5; Bryan Harvey 173; David Dunlop 174; John Cassidy 169; Ian Lamb 173; Geoff Robinson 162.

In the Christmas Cup, Stanley Jelly defeated Bryan Harvey across the six-hole countback

Eric McAfee won the Monday Seniors on 25.5 points - with Bell Stewart (low section), Bobby Stewart (high section) and Denis McNally (veterans) also winners.

The Boxing Day 10-hole competition featured Gavin Lynas first on 23 points over Michael Connolly.
