Round-up of results from the ladies section

The competitive week at the club started with the ladies last Tuesday. The McKavanagh school of golf has triumphed again with Eithne McAtavey winning Captain’s prize for the ladies with a score of 36 points.

There were three scores of 36 and Eithne managed to just hold off Dee Farrell and Margaret O’Neill. Eithne has been playing very consistently lately and an examination of the order of merit will show that she has been quietly climbing up the table and currently lies fourth, one ahead of her sister Nuala, so that will be a tussle to keep an eye on over the summer months.

The Captain’s prize for best gross went to Zoe Allen with 25 gross points. By Zoe’s high standards she will probably be disappointed with her score but it was still the best score of the day. The putting competition took place last Saturday. It was a hotly contested affair but star player Niamh Ward came up trumps. The ladies prizes on Tuesday went to Past Lady Captain Dee Farrell in Section 1 with 36 points. Nuala Beatty won Section 2 with 35 points (just beating Diana McClelland on BB9) and section 3 went to Margaret O’Neill with 36 points. Dee has been a very successful member of the Junior Foursomes and Intermediate Cup teams this year and it’s great to see her rewarded for her good play in our competitions. Nuala has played very steady this year and is no stranger to the prizes and Margaret O’Neill won her section by four shots. Two teachers scored top marks in the June monthly medal with Sian Mulholland winning section one with net 69 and Heather Shaw winning section two with 68.
