Tom the winner of competition with score of nett 64

He had a nett 64, playing off 18. He reached the turn two under his handicap and when he opened the back nine with two nett birdies immediately followed by a nett eagle he was well on the way to victory.

Three players returned nett 66 with Brian Mallon’s back nine pushing him into second place.

Having reached the turn in a creditable but unspectacular 45 to be level with his handicap, four nett birdies on the way home brought deserved reward.

Chris Best hasn’t had many opportunities to compete this season but of the seven competitions he has entered he has been among the prizes four times and has lost four shots off his handicap in the process.

After 16 holes he was on the verge of outright victory but a pair of closing double bogeys meant he had to settle for third place with a nett 66.

Young Philip Shaw continued with his extremely impressive form to lift the gross prize with a 68. Birdies at the fourth, sixth, eighth and 16th, and bogeys at the seventh and 14th made up his very impressive winning score.

Alan Hamilton claimed his first prize of the year when he took the low section with a nett 67, off eight, helped by birdies at the third, ninth and 12th but hindered by a double bogey at the supposedly easy fourth.

George Harkness also had a nett 67 and will regret the single, late double bogey which popped up at the 17th.

The middle section went to the rapidly improving Adam McCleary with a nett 68 off 16, a triple bogey at the 11th denying him greater reward. Terence Eagers has been in contention throughout the season and he narrowly missed out with a nett 68.

The high section went to Stephen Cordner with a nett 68 off 20, narrowly edging out Nigel Girvan and Sean McEvoy on nett 69.

In the Wednesday sweep competition the winner was Harry Hoy with 38 points with Terry McCrory second on 36 and Chris Best third on 35 points.
