Good win for College

Portadown U17s 12 Lurgan College 22

LURGAN College travelled to Portadown on Saturday and came away with a win despite a slow start to the match.

Facing a much larger pack, the Lurgan College forwards gave away a number of penalties within the first 10 minutes and the impressive Portadown out half tucked them away in the windy conditions to give his side a 9-0 lead.

However, the College side then sprung into life and Jack Burke added to his growing reputation with a touchdown in the corner. A converted try from Des Bingham edged the away side in front but another penalty from Portadown drew them level at halftime.

The second half was a much more one-sided affair with Chris Clague and Dean Wilson taking the game to the opposition from the kick off. Before long Wilson got himself on the scoresheet with his fourth try of the season and Harry Hawkes rapped up proceedings with a score in the corner. Best on the day for the College were Matthew McClune and Luke Thompson.

The Medallion also enjoyed a successful Saturday as they disposed of Strabane Grammar School 59-5. Best on the day for the home side was Benjamin Gilbert. The College welcome Down High School to Lough Road this Saturday with a 10am kick off.
