High School ready for Hockey Tour to Belgium

A squad of 20 senior players from years 11 to 14 and 3 teachers from Coleraine High School are going to Brasschaat in Belgium to participate in the ‘Topflight Schools Nations Tournament’ from the 30th October to the 2nd November.

The tournament, held at the home of the KHC Dragons, Belgium’s top team, consists of a total of 12 teams from Northern Ireland, the Republic, England and Belgium. The teams play a total of six games over the two days. Coleraine High play group matches against teams from Antwerp and Brussels, as well as Dominican College Galway; The High School, Dublin and Holy Faith Secondary School, also from Dublin.

First XI Coach, Peter Semple said: “The tournament provides the girls with opportunity to play against different styles of hockey, in a different environment. There is nothing quite like a tournament atmosphere and for many of the girls it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Captain Jessica Moore said: “Alex Halliday and I are just back from the Interprovincials with Ulster where we came second. Hopefully this gives us a chance to go one better!

“For us in Upper Sixth it’s a great opportunity in our final year and for the younger players it’s hopefully a way to inspire them for the future.”
