HOCKEY: Mossley take the spoils in exciting encounter against Cookstown

Mossley 1st 11 were not in action this week, with a postponed fixture at home against Raphoe due to player involvement in the Irish Intervarsity tournament in Cork.

Joel Cathcart, Jordan Robinson, Ross McIvor and Matthew Sullivan are representing Ulster University. Next week will see the Firsts travel to Dublin for round one of the Irish Senior Cup where they will face Rathgar.

Meanwhile, the 2nds hosted Lisnagarvey in Junior League 1, which was a dress rehearsal for their Irish Junior Cup fixture in the coming weeks. Mossley will hope to have a better outcome in the cup as they fell to a 2-0 home defeat to the Hillsborough outfit.

The 3rd 11 welcomed Cookstown 4ths to The Glade on Saturday and came away 2-1 winners in an exciting encounter. The first half was goalless, but the game opened up in the second half and the deadlock was broken when Jordan McCrea deflected in from close range.

Coming into the final 10 minutes, Cookstown levelled the score. With only two minutes remaining, a Mossley attack was rewarded when a long ball found John Young who made no mistake slotting the ball past the advancing keeper to secure the win.

Elsewhere, Mossley 4th 11 travelled to Portrush on Friday evening, but were unable to keep their 3-2 lead with goals courtesy of Jordan Oliver, Joe Wray and James Jackson, eventually falling to a 5-3 defeat.

Finally, the Fifths came away with a point from their match against Antrim, finishing 2-2 with goals from Ryan Lyle.
