Impressive win for Coleraine Seconds

COLERAINE Seconds notched up an impressive third win in a row when they entertained Instonians Thirds on Saturday.

The Bannsiders had the wind in their favour during the first half and thanks to some good kicking by out half Barry Davies they were able to pin Instonians in their own 22. Although Coleraine’s forwards were a lot smaller than the Instonians pack, they competed well and dominated much of the play.

Coleraine’s first try came from a well worked backline move and saw captain Ronnie Caskey power through two Instonians players to score under the posts. Dave Allen converted.

Instonians scored straight from the restart, taking advantage of some poor tackling by Coleraine. The score was levelled with a good conversion.

Things didn't stay that way for long. Winger Peter O'Hara was next to score after a great run, starting in his own half.

It soon became clear that Instonians had no answer to the Coleraine backs. Full back Stevie Callaghan sliced through the visitor’s defence to score under the posts. Allen converted making the score 19-7.

Coleraine’s next try came when number 8 Josh Christie picked from the back of a scrum and powered down the blind side. He was dragged down meters from the line but he was able to pop the ball to winger Craig Knight who dived in to score in the corner.

Scrum half Aaron Wilson also scored. He took a quick penalty just outside Instonians 22 and side stepped around a few players to score under the posts. The half time score was 31-7 to Coleraine.

Coleraine seemed to go to sleep for the first 15 minutes of the second half and allowed Instonians back into the game, scoring twice to make it 31-17.

Coleraine then stepped up a gear and finished the game strongly. Centre Dave Allen kicked through and chased down to score Coleraine’s sixth try.

The final try came from a good break by out half Barry Davies, passing the ball to Caskey who popped it to hooker Gary Blair for a score under the posts. The final score Coleriane 43 Instonians 17.
