Issues still to be resolved

WHILST league issues still remain to be resolved, it could be at this year's Armagh Convention where the big talking points will eventually arise.

Although the vast majority of clubs in Armagh are beginning to wind down towards the end of season issues, particularly in Division One, could go down to the wire.

As things stand at the bottom of the top-flight, Killeavey are already relegated and events this weekend could decide who will join them in next season’s Division Two. Last Sunday, Mullaghbawn, who would still be favourites to face the drop, were due to play Maghery who failed to field for the 12noon start. Mullaghbawn will have to beat Dromintee this Sunday in the hope that Clan na Gael will lose both remaining games.

The Blues, however, play beaten Intermediate finalists Cullaville on Sunday in a match from which they must take one point if they are to place their Division One status in their own hands.

A new debate has arisen around the issue of club’s failing to fulfil end of year fixtures. Carrickcruppin, for their part, still have to travel to Derrytrasna having pulled out of their home game against Sarsfields.

Should ‘Cruppin not fulfil the fixture, they could face expulsion from the league under Football League Regulations, “a team that has forfeited the points for three matches shall be expelled from the league, points for unplayed matches shall be awarded to the opposing team and next season must apply to the County Committee for readmission”.

With St Peter’s already relegated from Division Two, things are not so clear-cut for ire g in the third flight. It is understood that the gs have been awarded the points from an unfinished game earlier in the season against Clonmore but Beleeks and Clonmore, who sit bottom and second-bottom, have games in hand. ire g who have completed all their games will have a nervous wait on other results.
