Local Archers hit the target once again to win gold

Causeway Archers were celebrating at the weekend after being crowned Northern Ireland Club Champions as the Causeway ‘A’ Team secured the coveted trophy.

In a very hard fought contest with clubs from all over the country entering the event, Causeway were able to pull off a memorable victory. Seventeen teams entered into the morning session shooting at the tricky three-spot targets where one arrow must strike each target area. The teams were made up of six archers and had to include a mixture of Bow-Styles and Senior or Junior members. The scores from the morning session were then added to the afternoon shoot which was shot at an even further distance and at a Field Target Face.

The final scores were then verified and each team was given a ranking. This then saw each team go head to head against each other in an Elimination Style Shooting Format.

Each member was required to shoot six arrows at the longer distance against their opposing team. The highest scoring team then went through to the next round.

Causeway ‘B’ Team were beaten by only thre points by a strong team from Lisburn, who went on to secure third Place.

Causeway ‘A’ Team, which contained a mixture of experience, youth and novice archers, shot very consistently throughout the day and strolled through to the Gold medal match against last year’s winners from Banbridge.

A few stray arrows early on finding the lower scoring zones were then backed up with some fantastic groups landing dead centre and Causeway won comfortably by 30 points.
