Lurgan bowlers ready for new season with their traditional Opening Day
After the traditional flag-raising by, Melvyn Hamilton, Club President, his wife Pamela delivered the first bowl of the season. Eileen Robson, Ladies’ honorary secretary, presented Pamela Hamilton with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, specially arranged by Wilderness.
About 50 members and friends were present for the occasion and the rinks were full of enthusiastic bowlers for the President’s Charity Rinks Tournament in aid of his chosen charity – The Friends of the Cancer Centre.

Hide AdAfter a sumptuous afternoon tea provided by the Club President and his wife and supplied in the pavilion by Larry Dougan of Bracley, the President presented prizes to the rinks tournament winners with the gent’s prize being won by Bobby Livingstone and the ladies’ by Patricia Ferguson, whose husband Iain graciously accepted the booby prize.
Angela Thompson, a Lurgan Ladies bowler for many years, who has had much success over the years both at club and association level, has been honoured by the NI Women’s Bowling Association who has installed her as its Vice-President this year.
She will assist the President in carrying out her duties and will be attending the flag unfurling at various sister associations over Ireland including St James’ Gate, Dublin, Ballymoney and Larne. A big organisational event for her will be the staging of the NIWBA Cups and Championship Semi-Finals at her home green in June and August.
Her fellow Lurgan bowlers wish Angela all the best in our year of office as NIWBA Vice-President and hope that she have a memorable time, while looking forward to her next year as the Association’s President.
