Portadown today completed a one-year deal for Ryan McStay.
The Scotland-born midfielder is available for Tuesday’s trip to Ballymena United and Ronnie McFall feels the capture can add a touch of creativity to the centre of the park.
“Ryan showed against Harrowgate during pre-season he is good technically,” said McFall, the Ports boss. “There is no question midfield has been an area we have wanted to strengthen for some time.
“Ryan brings something different than our current midfielders and we will be looking to him for that final pass.
“He can do damage to teams in the final third.
“We will continue to look at bringing in other players if possible and free agents mean we can work beyond the transfer window.”
One player now away from Shamrock Park is Michael McLellan, with Ballymena United signing the forward.
Another recent signing - Johnny Black - will remain at the club until Saturday ahead of his departure to Australia.
“Johnny is with us for the rest of the week and he, along with the rest of the squad, was excellent in our win over Cliftonville.
“The centre-backs were superb in stopping the Cliftonville strikers and we certainly deserved to win over 90 minutes.”
On his official Twitter account McStay said, “Delighted to sign for Portadown over in N Ireland! Too good an opportunity to turn down! Change of scenery and new challenge ahead!”
