Portadown president Michael Connolly enjoyed a return to the roll of honour on Saturday thanks to success in the Porters Bodyshop Ltd-sponsored Open Stableford.
Connolly, sponsors’ representative Colin Porter, Geoff Robinson and Keith Walker tackled the Carrickblacker course - with the overall winner on two-over-par 22 by the turn.
Six pars and a birdie three at the eighth set up 19 points during the return leg. Highlights included birdies on the 13th and 14th holes.
He edged home in front of Terry Sandford by a single shot - with the latter the pick of three players on 40 points, followed home by James Brown and Ian Lamb.
Stephen Poole and Martin Corey each finished on 38 points, with Keith Walker collecting the gross prize on 71.
The Thursday Stableford was won by Andrew Dale on 46 points, ahead of Karl Gale and Peter Baxter. The latter, Portadown’s juvenile captain, scored 39 points for third.
The gross prize featured Andrew Connolly at the top of the field.
David Alexander was first across the Wednesday Sweep sponsored by MKM.
The section winners were Jonny Grant (0-10, 31 points), David Henderson (11-14, 29 points), Dave Allen (15-18, 31 points), John Cassidy (19-plus, 31 points).
In the Monday Seniors, Eric McAfee was first on 33 points - with Geoff Robinson top of the low section with 31 and Dick Mitchell the leading player in the high section on 29. Sammy Forbes was the leading veteran.
The annual 14-hole Parent and Child competition had Bryan Harvey and Ben Harvey in top spot on 36 points during the Alexander, Bain and Murray-backed event.
Paul Stevenson and Harry Stevenson were next home, with Jason Armstrong and Luke Harvey first in the section honours over Andrew Connolly and Peter Baxter.
Tomorrow (Saturday) marks the final entry date for the President’s Day event on August 15. Club president Michael Connolly would like to invite all members and partners to the prize presentation and evening entertainment.
