Craigavon Senior High School defeated Shimna Integrated College thanks to a strong team display despite difficult weather conditions.
Damien Campbell, the Craigavon side’s head coach, was full of praise for his players’ commitment.
“We were able to dominate possession, especially off set-plays in scrums and lineouts,” said Campbell. “We came away with two tries and one conversion during the first 20 minutes.
“Shimna came back into the game by scoring one try then only a turnover by Jay Martin stopped the threat in a great position.
“We were able to produce some brilliant continuity rugby between our forwards and backs.
“Shimna conceded four penalties in a row and had a player sent to the sin bin.
“We scored another try and conversion to lead 19-5 by half-time.
“In the second half, Shimna had all of the possession and unfortunate not to come away with a try, with Jay Martin again making a decisive tackle.
“We went on to score two tries and two conversions before the end of the match.
“It was very pleasing to see us play so well as a team.”
